Description

Freehand sharpening rounds a chisel's bevel a little more with each session, until the edge no longer cuts where you expect. The Honing Guide System clamps the blade at a set angle, so every stroke on the stone meets the same bevel and the edge comes back where it was.

The angle fixture sets common bevels at 15, 20, 25, 30, 35, 40 and 45°, plus 17, 22, 27, 32, 37 and 42°. If you do not know the angle of a chisel or plane iron, measure it with the angle gauge first. Blades from 5/32 to 3 in wide fit, from narrow chisels to wide plane irons.

Double short rollers and double long rollers keep the blade square to the stone, which brings the edge back square after sharpening. The parts are aluminum, brass and stainless steel, and a storage box holds the guide between sessions. Black and Red are the same guide.

In the box

Questions

Questions about the GOINGMAKE Honing Guide System

How narrow a chisel can you sharpen in the GOINGMAKE honing guide?

Blades from 5/32 in up to 3 in wide fit, so the same guide takes a small paring chisel and a wide plane iron. Clamp the blade, set the angle and roll it on the stone.

Does the red GOINGMAKE honing guide work like the black one?

Yes, the color is the only difference. Both have double short and long rollers, the same angle fixture with 13 settings and a storage box.
